3 IPL 2024 Standout Players Who Could Make India’s T20 World Cup Squad

3 IPL 2024 Standout Players Who Could Make India's T20 World Cup Squad

India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, happening in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to June 29, is going to be out soon. The ICC has told everyone that teams need to have their lists ready by May 1.

So, who’s going to wear the blue jersey? Most of the team pretty much picks itself. If we go by what PTI is saying, you can bet on seeing Rohit Sharma leading the team, with Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant ready to smash some runs.

And the guys who can bat and bowl – Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya – they’re pretty much sure to be in the squad too. As for the bowlers, it looks like Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav are set to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, the IPL this year has been full of surprises with some players really showing off their skills. This could give the selectors a tough time deciding. With that in mind, we’ve got our eyes on three players who might just grab a spot for the World Cup team out of the blue.

Dinesh Karthik

So Dinesh Karthik, right? One of the most favourite players to bet on Lotus365, because he really swings the odds like how he does it with his bat. Looked like he had one foot out the door of international cricket when he didn’t get picked for the Indian squad after the 2022 T20 World Cup. It kinda felt like, well, that was that. Didn’t really knock it out of the park when he played, and let’s face it, he’s not getting any younger.

But hey, something about World Cup years seems to get the best out of some players. Take Karthik for instance; the guy’s been smashing it in the IPL this season. Even Rohit Sharma was poking fun at him in an IPL game, hinting that DK’s still dreaming of that World Cup spot with the way he’s hitting.

And then you see tweets popping up, like this one guy, Johns, calling DK the top finisher of the IPL 2024. That’s quite a shout.

Not everyone’s convinced though. Some think picking him for the World Cup might be a step back. But with a strike rate touching 200 and an average that’s past the 60-mark in this year’s IPL, that’s some serious firepower. Might just make the selectors scratch their heads, don’t you think?

Yuzvendra Chahal

Isn’t it wild that Yuzvendra Chahal, who’s nailing it in T20s with a bag of 96 wickets from 80 games, hasn’t played in a World Cup match yet? It’s like somehow, he’s just been super unlucky.

And then there’s Kuldeep Yadav, who’s part of the famous KulCha duo with Chahal. He’s back with a bang in international cricket after a bit of a slump, what with form and fitness hurdles and all. Chahal, though, looks like he’s been off the radar for the selectors lately, and that’s not great for his World Cup dreams.

The last we saw Chahal in a T20 for India was back in August 2023 against the West Indies in Florida. And his most recent one-day game was against New Zealand in early 2023. The thing is, India’s been leaning towards all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel – thanks to the runs they add to the scoreboard.

But let’s give credit where it’s due. Chahal’s been pretty sharp in the IPL this year. The guy’s with Rajasthan Royals and he’s just behind the top wicket-taker in the league. He’s got 12 wickets from seven matches, with an impressive average of 18.08. Stats like that are tough to ignore, don’t you think?

Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube’s been in the spotlight, not always for the reasons you want, though. A bit like Riyan Parag, he’s had his share of flak for not quite hitting the mark. But lately? We’re seeing a whole new Dube. Playing for CSK under Dhoni, he’s turned things around big time and become the guy you bet on to win matches with his bat.

Last season he was smashing it, helping CSK lift that IPL trophy with a solid 418 runs in 16 games. And he wasn’t just making runs; he was doing it with style—a banging average of 38 and a strike rate over 150. This season, he’s not slowing down either. He’s already stacked up 245 runs in just seven games, averaging close to a 50 and striking at over 150 again, with a couple of fifties to boot.

Dube’s always had the potential – no one doubted that. But this season, he’s batting with a kind of clear-headedness. It’s like he knows exactly when to go big, and man, he’s hitting them clean. In the IPL this year, not many have batted better than Dube. He’s definitely one to watch.

The thing about Dube is, he’s in that all-rounder slot, but his bowling? Not exactly his strong suit. CSK’s been pretty chill about it, using him just for his batting chops. Thanks to the Impact Player rule, they can do just that.

So if the India selectors are eyeing him for the 2024 T20 World Cup, they’ve got to think of him as a batter, not as an all-rounder. That’s a bit of a head-scratcher because India’s batting lineup is already jam-packed. But, on the flip side, Dube’s got that spark in his bat that could be just the ticket for that X-factor in the batting order.
